This week I want to talk about a old age home we visited. It was started about a year ago by a 26 year old, married woman I met at a YWAM HYDERABAD celebration. She didn't speak english but got her pastor to translate and invited us to come visit. It was amazing!
What she does is take the elderly who are abandoned by their families and forced to beg on the street, she takes them into a beautiful home she is renting and cares for them until they pass away. One woman we met was 103 and walking and laughing and talking, completely with it. She told us (via a translator) that the woman was so wonderful to help her and she was so grateful but she hopes she can die soon :) Only the woman is a Christian, her Hindu family supports her and works with her along with some church members. We were so happy to help and encourage her.
When we left she asked if we could spread the word about her home as it is all run by donations. None of the elderly had mattresses, all were on metal beds with a few blankets. Our team has decided to buy mattresses for them and I hope to donate my Christmas money to them so that they can have their medication, food and extra blankets.
Get the word out there! It is so encouraging to see Indians helping with the beggers and giving dignity to the elderly.
Love you all,
(ps, I delivered baby number three:) Samuel is his name!)
